Lughnasadh - Lá
Lúnasa - Lùnastal - Calan Awst.
See the Wiki article Lughnasadh.
Lughnasadh in one
of the four main festivals of the Celtic calendar. Lughnasadh was traditionally
a time of community gatherings, market festivals, horse races and reunions
with distant family and friends. It was also celebrated originally on
a date that took solar, lunar and the living signs of the season since
it was a harvest festival. Australia Day on 26 February is thus well
suited as a date to celebrate Lughnasadh.
On Lughnasadh: "Hail
the Thunder God Lugh - Rider of the Storm - Lightning Flashes from his
Shining Face". Very appropriate for the Australian Monsoon summer
season ! Lugh Lamhfada 'The Shining One of the Long Arm' - the root
"lu-" of his name gives
us words like luminous and illuminate.
Again very appropriate for the fierce sun of the hot Aussie summer.
He is the multi-skilled and An Scal in the Land of Paradise (he will
come again and save his people). Read Mary Jones article on Lugh:
